【TOKYO】Beyond the Clouds
— Stay with an Oshi Priest and Conquer the Rock Walls of the Gods —
This is the story of a region that is only 60 minutes away from Tokyo!
For over 1,200 years, Japan has maintained a tradition of mountain worship, where peaks are revered as gods. Historically, practitioners known as “Shugenja” entered these mountains to obtain “divine power” through rigorous training, using their spiritual abilities to heal and help others.
Mt. Mitake is the only area in Japan where the descendants of these former ascetics have formed a settlement on the mountaintop. Today, 26 historic houses remain, preserving ancient traditions. On this tour, you will not only stay in a traditional “Shukubo” (pilgrim lodge) and converse with an “Oshi” priest, but you will also experience the essence of ancient Shugendo, including access to sacred areas usually off-limits to the public.
Your journey culminates in a challenging trek to the summit of Mt. Odake, navigating rock walls and chain sections to witness breathtaking views of Mt. Fuji.
